Where can I buy a ticket?

Tickets are available to purchase online here, or can be bought at the MDXSU Welcome Desk (downstairs in MDX House) between 10am and 4pm. Tickets and e-tickets will then need to be exchanged for your official Summer Shutdown wristband. Wristbands will be available to collect or purchase from the MDXSU Welcome Desk between Wednesday 26th April until Wednesday 17th May.

 

How much are tickets?

Our early bird tickets – starting at £15 – have now sold out, though £20 advance tickets will be available until the day of the event, either online here, or at the MDXSU Welcome Desk. Joint tickets Summer Shutdown and Graduation Black and White Party tickets are also available for £22, saving you up to £13. On the door tickets will cost £20 until midnight and then will be £25, so we recommend purchasing in advance.  Once you have entered the event you will not be able to leave and come back, so make sure you have everything you need with you!

 

Where do I collect my wristband?

Wristbands will be available to collect or purchase from the MDXSU Welcome Desk (downstairs in MDX House) weekdays 10am-4pm between Wednesday 26th April until Wednesday 17th May. The wristband will be secured to you so that it cannot be removed.

  • If you are swapping an e-ticket or paper ticket for your wristband, you will need to bring this ticket alongside your MDX student ID card to collect your wristband
  • If you are an Annual Events Pass holder, you will need to bring your Annual Events Pass and student ID card

 

Does my Annual Events Pass get me access to this event?

Yes! You will need to collect your wristband before the event though, and the Annual Events Pass is only valid for you. You cannot give it to a friend to use instead, and doing so will invalidate the card.

 

How many tickets can each student purchase?

Each student can purchase up to three tickets to ensure everyone has an opportunity to buy one.

 

Can I buy a ticket for a non-Middlesex guest?

Middlesex students are able to purchase up to two tickets for non-MDX “guests”. Please ensure your guests bring valid ID and their wristband, and that they attend with you so you can check them in.

 

Can I refund my ticket?

Tickets are non-refundable. Please look after your wristband as these cannot be replaced.

 

I’ve lost my wristband, can I get another?

Unfortunately due to number restrictions and the overall capacity of the event under no circumstances can we replace lost or stolen wristbands, so please do not remove this once it has been secured to your wrist.

 

What do I get with my ticket?

Your ticket grants your entry to the event and all activities and entertainment. Food and drink is not included in your ticket.

How do I access the Summer Shutdown site?

Summer Shutdown will take place across campus with various indoor and outdoor areas. Doors will open from 7pm with last entry at 1.30am, so make sure you arrive with plenty of time. The entrance to the site is by Grove Park between the Portakabins and the Real Tennis Building. This will be clearly signposted!

To enter the Summer Shutdown site you will need both your wristband (or your ticket if you’re getting your wristband on the door) and a valid photo ID. This is an 18+ event so you will need to prove your age!

 

What time will Summer Shutdown start and end?

Doors open at 7pm and close at 3am, with the last entry at 1am. The bars will close at 2am.

 

What time will the main artists be on?

The main headline artists will start from 12am. Before this there will be a mixture of DJs and student performers.

 

Can under 18s attend the event?

Due to licensing this event is strictly over-18s only. Please bring a valid photo ID with you such as a driving licence or passport.

 

Will there be any food and drink available?

There will be a range of food and drinks on offer, with vegan, vegetarian and halal options available. There will also be two bars on site. Click here for more information.

 

Will I have access to cash machines at the event?

The cash machine in MDX House will be the only machine available within the Summer Shutdown site. We recommend you bring plenty of cash with you.

 

Can I bring my own alcohol in to the event?

No – the area is a licensed venue so only drinks bought on the premises can be consumed. You will be searched on entry and any alcohol found on you will be confiscated, and may result in you not being allowed entry to the event.

 

Is the event open to the public?

Only Middlesex University students and their guests can attend the event. Each Middlesex Student can bring in two guests who they will have to sign in, and who must also purchase tickets.

 

How is the event managed?

The event is managed by MDXSU in cooperation with the University, their Security Team, and the local police and council. There will be over twenty security guards on site for the event ensuring you have a great time!

 

Will parking be available?

We suggest you travel via public transport. You can park in the car park but there will be limited availability due to parking needed for the contractors working on the event.

 

How is the total capacity of Summer Shutdown calculated?

The capacity of the event is calculated based on how many indoor venues we have and their capacity. Although the site includes outdoor spaces, the figures have to be based on indoor venues in case of bad weather. Our indoor venues include MDX House and Silent Disco Marquee. Please note that entrance to some venues will be restricted due to individual capacity restrictions.

 

What does ‘subject to contract’ mean in association with the acts?

All acts when booked are subject to contract. This may mean that due to circumstances beyond our control acts may pull out of the event. If this does happen we will let all ticket holders know with as much notice as possible and do our best to find an alternative act.

 

Will the line-up include student acts? Can I or my band perform?

How is the money from Summer Shutdown spent?

MDXSU does not make any profit from Summer Shutdown – every penny from ticket sales is put back into the event. There are numerous costs involved, including advertising, technical set up, security, wristbands, marquee hire, props and installations, staffing, acts and entertainment, and for such a large scale event for over 1000 people this costs in the region of £20,000.

 

Is there a dress code?

Nope! You can wear whatever you want or feel comfortable in.

 

Will there be a cloakroom?

There will be a cloakroom available on site, costing £1 per item.

 

What will be inside?

You can see what will be on offer with our handy map. There will be a fairground ride, games and activities, a main stage, a silent disco tent, student performers, games and activities, two bars, food stalls, cloakroom, photobooth and more!
